Education on sustainable development is becoming increasingly important within school curricula: educating tomorrow's citizens in the implementation of good practices that respect the environment

OBJECTIVE

To promote actions to mitigate climate change and to reduce the environmental impact per capita and per school in the Province of Cremona, involving students, families, teachers and employees of public bodies.

THE METHOD AND ACKNOLEDGEMENT

The Green School method involves the implementation of a synergetic action by the entire school community in which stucents, teachers, non-teaching staff and parents act together for the common goal of reducing the school's carbon footprint. Schools have the task and duty to be promoters of the behavioural and mental change needed to build a more sustainable society. By acting every day, schools can make it systematic and natural for pupils and the entire school population to adopt virtuous behaviour, thus helping to form citizens who are aware and respectful of the environment and the common good.

Green School is based on active learning: every step of the way, knowledge and actions are integrated, ensuring coherence between thought, study and action. It is a process of co-education in which experience itself generates knowledge and learning.

The Green School award will be given to schools that demonstrate that they have carried out concrete actions to mitigate anthropic impact, measured the impact of their action in terms of saving CO2 emissions, raised awareness and trained the entire school population, actively involved their local area and disseminated the contents and results of their action. The project is based on the pedagogical approach of active learning: learn by doing.

MMI ACTIVITIES

Project coordination in the Cremona area.
Technical support to schools.
Liaison with the NGO CAST, developer of the portal.
Organisation of training sessions for teachers and families.
Organisation events on environmental issues.
Management of the PADLET platform dedicated to the Green School Project for schools in Cremona and in its province.
