INFECTIOUS DISEASES
MMI supports local health systems in raising awareness, preventing, and treating HIV, TB, and malaria
Medicus Mundi Italia is committed to fighting major infectious diseases (HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria), working in the most vulnerable communities of five health districts in the Province of Inhambane in Mozambique and in the slums of various sub-counties in Nairobi and Machakos in Kenya. MMI works for prevention, detection, treatment, and care services for people living with HIV, TB, and malaria. It focuses on training and capacity-building for community health agents, who play a central role in connecting the health system with the communities. MMI carries out community awareness activities on reproductive health, family planning, and combating stigma and discrimination, which are still prevalent in many African countries.
In Mozambique, the fight against HIV and TB in rural districts is reinforced through the brigadas móveis (mobile clinics), which provide prevention, testing, counseling, and treatment services to the communities.
