What We Do
In more than 50 years of activity Medicus Mundi Italia has operated in Africa, Latin America, Asia, Eastern Europe and Italy. In recent years, MMI has increasingly turned its attention to the countries of Sub-Saharan Africa, the poorest region on our planet, implementing multi-sectoral projects in partnership with other associations.
In particular, MMI has focused its efforts:
- on integrated community development projects with a focus on basic hygiene and medicine, prevention and health education, maternal and child health and assisted childbirth;
- on the training of social and health workers on the field;
- on fighting maternal and child malnutrition, with the aim of preventing acute forms of child malnutrition in the first 1000 days (from fertilization to 2 years of age) and on improving the quality and coverage of acute and chronic malnutrition care in children from 2 to 5 years of age;
- on fighting HIV: not only on prevention, information, and care, but also on supervision of preventive and curative protocols implementation and on the prevention of vertical mother-to-child transmission;
- on fighting Malaria, TB and all other tropical infectious diseases;
- on the adaptation and/or implementation of facilities with diagnostic and treatment services in the area to help strengthen testing, training and prevention services in basic health;
- on the rehabilitation and implementation of drinking water and sanitation facilities.
