AREA OF INTERVENTION
DIRE - Right to a Name, Civil Registration, and Resilience in Burkina Faso
OBJECTIVE
The project aims to promote inclusive societies by ensuring the protection of vulnerable populations, particularly internally displaced persons and migrants in Burkina Faso.
CONTEXT
Burkina Faso is experiencing a severe humanitarian crisis caused by armed conflicts, climate change, and political instability, with devastating consequences for the population, particularly women, children, and internally displaced persons (IDPs). Access to basic services, including civil registration, is also severely compromised. The lack of identity documents exposes large segments of the population—especially children, migrants, and IDPs—to risks of discrimination, exploitation, and human rights violations, further exacerbating the impact of the crisis.
This initiative aims to improve the provision of basic services for both resident populations and migrants and IDPs. Through staff training, community awareness campaigns, and direct support for birth registration, the project seeks to ensure everyone’s right to a legal identity and promote social inclusion. By doing so, it contributes to building a fairer and safer future for the population, particularly migrants and IDPs. Specifically, the project facilitates widespread dissemination of information and best practices to encourage service utilization, activating networks of public entities and civil society organizations to expand access channels and improve information outreach.
