Burkina Faso - Combating malnutrition and sanitation prevention Ouagadougou
Combating malnutrition and sanitation prevention in informal settlements on the outskirts of Ouagadougou

OBJECTIVE
The project aims to improve the nutritional and hygienic-sanitary conditions of the vulnerable population in the Boulmiougou District.
MMI activities
- Refresher courses for community health and social workers and nurses from 6 health centers, which address nutrition and hygiene issues.
- Training meetings for women and mothers regarding correct nutrition and hygiene. These will be followed by follow up activities for the duration of the project
- Food support for particularly vulnerable families, with particular attention to internally displaced persons.
- Identification, referral to Health Centers and management of cases of severe acute (MAS) and moderate (MAM) childhood malnutrition. The Health Centers will be supplied with nutritional supplements, thus ensuring continuity of treatment. Furthermore, community health and social workers will carry out home visits, ensuring the follow-up of MAM and MAS cases.
- Construction of 12 community latrines and community awareness on their use.
- Activation and training of 6 Management Committees responsible for maintaining community latrines.
BENEFICIARIES
The following will benefit from the project's action:
450 children suffering from moderate acute malnutrition (MAM) and 300 children suffering from severe acute malnutrition (MAS);
4,320 mothers;
300 people in vulnerable conditions (approximately 60 families);
75 community health and social workers and 6 nurses from health centers;
thousands of inhabitants of the 6 communities.
The indirect beneficiaries of the intervention will be all women of childbearing age (89,812) and children aged between 0 and 5 years (50,360) in the target areas.
