Let’s feed the future!
Nutritional security interventions to ensure adequate nutrition mothers and children aged 0 to 5 years old.
AREA OF INTERVENTION
CENTRE-WEST REGION - Boulkiemdé Province and Sanguié Province

OBJECTIVE
The project aims to help reduce malnutrition among pregnant and nursing women and children under five, with active participation of communities and in line with Burkina Faso's National Multisectoral Nutrition Policy.
MMI ACTIVITIES
Medicus Mundi Italia works on the prevention and treatment of acute and chronic malnutrition, particularly in the 3 Health Districts of the Central West Region (Nanoro, Reo and Tenado), where it has been working since 2012 in close collaboration with the local health authorities.
The project will act in 75 Health Centres and 197 villages in the three Districts, and MMI will have a regional coordinating role in malnutrition activities, also ensuring technical coordination for the nutrition component:
- training, coaching, monitoring and supervising health workers and health centres on screening and case management of malnutrition and on child feeding and nutrition practices.
- Home distribution services of nutritional supplements to be integrated into the usual diet for children under 2 years of age and providing support for the logistics of supplying, dispensing and monitoring the use of micronutrient powders in the 75 health centres.
- Implementation of promotion and awareness-raising campaigns for the prevention of malnutrition;
- Training and supervision of health workers on the management of acute malnutrition in the Health Centres, in coordination with regional and district health authorities;
- Provision of food, food supplements and hygiene kits for malnourished children;
- Institutional capacity building to combat malnutrition at municipal, district and regional levels.
BENEFICIARIES
The beneficiaries of the project are:
- 191,483 Pregnant, breastfeeding women and mothers of children up to 5 years old;
- 185,422 children from 0 to 5 years;
- 23,824 farmers;
- 1,048 families and local community-based organisations.
The entire population of the 364 villages in the intervention area, a total of 1,104,615 people, will benefit indirectly from the project's impact on strengthened basic health services and increased food security.
